5.9 GHz DSRC

OTTO on Board is the newest member of MARK IV's technology family and the first to demonstrate the near term viability of the Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII). VII will use 5.9 GHz Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) as established by the U.S. DOT to move information between vehicles and the roadway as well as directly among moving vehicles and to achieve national interoperability among systems. Otto is the first transponder designed to meet that standard.

OTTO takes the best from the past and provides an orderly evolution to future electronic toll collection and other new public and private applications.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation's DSRC schedule, the agreement to deploy will be made in 2008 and would signal the beginning of the deployment process in the auto industry and public agencies.
